Gude to Pharmacy Services

The Community Pharmacy Contractual Framework (CPCF) is made up of three service types:

  1. Essential Services and Clinical Governance, commissioned by NHS England
  2. Advanced Services, commissioned by NHS England
  3. Locally Commissioned Services, commissioned by Local Authorities, Clinical Commissioning Groups and NHS in response to the needs of the local population.

All pharmacy services outline below MUST be delivered in accordance with:

  1. Any accreditation requirement;
  2. Statutory clinical and information governance;
  3. Pharmacy Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Commissioner Service Level Agreements (SLA

Essential Services

  1. Dispensing Medicines
  2. Dispensing Appliances
  3. Managed Repeat Dispensing
  4. Repeat Dispensing including eRD
  5. Disposal of Unwanted Medicines
  6. Promotion of Healthy Lifestyles
  7. Signposting
  8. Support for Self Care – this will be replaced by the Community Pharmacy Consultation Service from October 2019

Advanced Services

  1. Medicines Use Reviews (MURs) & Prescription Intervention Service – MURs are being phased out by 2022/2023
  2. New Medicine Service (NMS)
  3. Flu Vaccination Service
  4. Appliance Use Reviews (AURs)
  5. Stoma Appliance Customisation (SAC)
  6. NHS Urgent Medicine Supply Advanced Service (NUMSAS) – Will be replaced by Community Pharmacy Consultation Service from October 2019
  7. Community Pharmacist Consultation Service – from October 2019

Locally Commissioned Services

These are services commissioned or procured locally from Pharmacy or made available directly by a Pharmacy as a private service under Patient Group Directions (PGD).
